Sumner Beach is a large family beach used for recreation and sunbathing. The sea here is great for swimming and is patrolled by surf lifesavers.
Scarborough Beach is used mostly used for surfing but there is also a wide promenade where residents walk, cycle and run. There is a children’s playground and café at the far end of the bay.
Taylor’s Mistake is a short drive over the hill from Sumner. It is a great swimming, surfing and bodyboarding beach which is patrolled by surf lifesavers.
Sumner can boast an eclectic selection of Restaurants, Bars and Cafes, all within easy walking distance of our Motel, covering breakfast through to dinner and drinks.
Sumner has walks of many different lengths from a stroll along the beach to a climb up the Port Hills at the back of the village.
Christchurch is well known for its mountain biking and there are many tracks around the Port Hills.
The Heathcote estuary, close to Sumner, provides a great venue to learn to kite surf and windsurf.
Christchurch is only a 20 minute drive or a short bus ride away with a range of activities and attractions to visit. The Christchurch Museum and Art Gallery are worth a visit as is a trip on the tram around the city and punting on the Avon.
